Brethren,
By the time you receive this bulletin, Thanksgiving will probably have come and
gone. I sincerely hope it was a very joyous occasion for everyone.
Our November meeting was a delight for all who attended. Since it was Past Master's Night, I delegated a lot of the meeting to our brethren. It was a pleasure to invite Most Worshipful Frederick G. Martin, III, to the East to introduce and acknowledge the Past Masters. He did an outstanding job of introducing each one of them by name and year of service. I responded for the Past Masters and thanked them all for their support for the past 55 years. Next was a motion to elect a new honorary member, who will be balloted on at our December meeting. Our speaker for the evening was Right Worshipful Joseph P. Gardner, Sr. His address was well received by all, especially the prose at the beginning and end of his program. Thank you, Joe. The closing of the Lodge and charge at the alter was delivered by Right Worshipful Guy M. Blankinship, III, our District Deputy Grand Master in a most impressive manner.
I have appointed a committee, consisting of Worshipfuls Jim Stanley, Ray Campbell and Stuart Thorpe, to investigate possibilities for the future of Henrico Union Lodge No. 130, and hope the incoming Worshipful Master will let them continue their work.
Also, our new candidate is working on his catechism and we
hope to have him ready for the next step very soon.
Since our last meeting, your Worshipful Master attended the Friday and Saturday
sessions of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. It was a most interesting time and all
the proposed amendments were rejected.
Your newly elected and installed Most Worshipful Grand Master George Bernard Dungan, Jr., will be at our December 5th meeting to install our new Worshipful Master. Please plan to be there to help meet and greet him and install our 2007 officers. Wives and ladies are cordially invited to dinner and the open installation. I am wishing you and your families health and happiness during the upcoming holiday season!
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Charles William Tompson, Sr.

Brethren,
For those of you who did not attend our
October stated meeting, you missed a very good program. Our speaker, Worshipful
Brother Wilbur
H. Matthews, Jr., Past Master of Varina Lodge No. 272 and current Junior Warden
of Thomas N. Davis Lodge No. 351, gave an excellent presentation on Founders
Day. It was very well researched and presented and as a result was extremely
interesting and well received by everyone. Thank you Brother Matthews for such a
nice job sharing the Founders Day information with us, and for all of your
assistance and contributions to Henrico Union Lodge.
I am very happy to report that I have
reinstated our Henry C. Durbin Memorial Masonic Classes on Thursday evenings at
7:00 p.m. and
I sincerely hope that other Lodges will join us. Worshipful Ray Campbell
is our instructor and Ray is willing to assist anyone who wants to learn. There
will be a called meeting on Thursday, October 19, at 7:00 p.m., as we look
forward to work in the Entered Apprentice Degree to initiate our candidate.
Worshipful Brothers Jim Stanley
and Stuart Thorpe, Sr. accompanied me to present 60 year Masonic Veterans
Awards to Brother William
M. Satterwhite, Jr., who can no longer leave his home except to attend doctor
appointments. He became a 60 year member on October 10, 2006. We enjoyed a
very interesting two hour visit with Brother Satterwhite who was pleased to get
his awards and for the visit.
In regards to the search for a possible new meeting location for our Lodge, I have appointed a special committee consisting of Worshipful Ray Campbell, Worshipful Jim Stanley, and Worshipful Stuart Thorpe, Sr. to investigate thoroughly and to determine (1) if a move is necessary, and if so (2) what options for moving we have; and (3) what is the best recommendation of the committee. In this manner we can insure that we are doing everything necessary to insure that any action we take will have been well researched and planned and is in the best possible interest of the Lodge.
This month Henrico Union Lodge will
celebrate Past Masters Night. Please come to the stated meeting on November 7th
and pay honor to these brethren who have dedicated their time and talent to keep
Henrico Union going for so many years. We need everyone’s support and
attendance. Ask yourself “What have I done for my Lodge lately?”
If you have been asked to be an officer for our Lodge next year, please
give it some very serious thought. We really need to finalize some preparations
and get our officers moving, so we can grow and prosper
within our Lodge and among the other Lodges.
Please plan to come and join us for
dinner at 6:30 p.m., on November 7th which will be catered by our friends from
Nanny's Family Restaurant.
The fellowship and the barbecue will be plentiful, so I hope that you make every
effort to attend.
Allow me to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very nice Thanksgiving Holiday and I hope that each of you enjoys many happy moments with your families.
I hope to see you on November 7th.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Charles William Tompson, Sr.

Brethren,
While this has been an exciting year for
our Lodge, as we move into the last quarter of the year we need to approach the
issues that face the future of our Lodge with a thoughtful mind and love for our
craft. One of the main issues is line officers. Our Lodge cannot survive and
continue to grow with mostly Past Masters filling the line officers' chairs. We
have elected a candidate to receive the degrees, but no one has yet stepped
forward to instruct him. Please remember the Grand Master's emblem of
Industry--the "Bee Hive"-- and consider offering your service in this very
worthwhile endeavor. Also, if you have ever had any interest in going in line or
serving as a lodge officer, now is a good time to consider it. To borrow a
phrase, we need a few good men! The work is hard but the rewards are plentiful.
Please contact me to discuss this as soon as possible.
As most of you know, we had a very close vote regarding our resolution to change
the By-Laws and as a result relocate at our last meeting.
In regards to the appeal that was filed, the Grand Master has decided that all
actions were proper and in accordance with regulations, therefore our By-Laws
will not change at this time. I urge unity among our brethren for the good of
our Lodge as we face many challenges. Together we can find the solutions that
will help our Lodge grow and continue our legacy of service in the quarries of
Masonry.
Our speaker for October will be Worshipful Wilbur H. Matthews, Jr., Past Master
of Varina Lodge and present Junior Warden of Thomas N. Davis Lodge No. 351. His
topic will be Founders Day. I know you will enjoy his presentation. I look
forward to seeing you on October 3rd as we work together for Henrico Union Lodge
and for Masonry.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Brethren,
Finally, we are having some much more moderate weather. I spent most of July inside because of the terrible heat and was not able to attend many Lodge functions. The year is now two-thirds over and with the weather a little better, I plan to be on the road again.
The ice cream social our Lodge sponsored at the Masonic Home on Saturday, August 12, was a great success. I want to thank all who made and brought the delicious cakes enjoyed by all. A special thanks to my daughter, Wanda, for her help and support. I had the pleasure to talk to all of our ladies, who are all in fairly good health and pleased to have such a nice place to live. They also expressed their appreciation for the visits by June and John Slaughter.
As most of you know by now our Tiler, Worshipful Brother Ernest Lynch is gravely ill. He has been in the hospital, but should be home shortly. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
Please make a special effort to be at our September meeting. We will ballot on a new petition and, also, some important information that affects our future as a Lodge. Members, if you do not attend and express your desires, you may be disappointed in the outcome.
We have a very good speaker lined up for September and I look forward to his remarks. One of our Past Masters’, Jim Stanley, will occupy the East for the meeting and I appreciate that very much.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Charles William Tompson, Sr.

Brethren,
The hot days of summer are right here with us, so try to keep cool and attend
your Lodge meetings. Some exciting things have kept your Worshipful Master going
quite a lot. Our own 150th Anniversary Celebration was a great success. The
Secretary's information on our web site and in your July bulletin has a very
nice description of the event.
We must also thank our Secretary for the excellent introduction to the World
Wide Web. If you haven't seen it yet, log on or find a friend with a computer
and take a look. Just enter www.henricounion.com into your web browser to review
the information, and convey your thoughts and thanks to our Secretary.
The official visit of the Most Worshipful Grand Master Glover Hunter Jones, III,
was another exciting evening, with over 500 in attendance. The Grand Master's
address was very well received by those in attendance, and a good time was had
by all.
I encourage your attendance at other Lodge meetings in and around the Richmond
area, and can assure you your attendance will be well received. We have a
petition to receive the degrees in Masonry and some very important business to
be acted on at our September meeting, which will be further explained in the
bulletin. We will go through the obligation at our August meeting so come and
renew your vows. I am looking forward to seeing you on August 1st for our Stated
Communication. We will be renewing our Master Masons Obligation, and the meeting
promises to be a short one.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Brethren,
This monthly trestle board or news bulletin (July 2006) brings me to
mid-term as your Worshipful Master.
I sincerely hope the expectation of my performance has met with your approval.
Time is short when you preside in the East.
Things come at you fast and furious
and you must meet every inquiry immediately with all the knowledge you can
muster.
I have enjoyed every moment so far. Early in the year the District
Deputy Grand Master meetings were a great experience.
It is wonderful to renew friendships, visit with old time friends and meet new
and exciting brethren as I represent our Lodge throughout the District and Grand
Lodge.
The preparations for the 150th Anniversary Celebration were
of great importance in order to have a successful program.
I thank all of you
who rose to the occasion and served on various committees. It all boils down to
great teamwork to accomplish such a beautiful presentation and without your help
and the support of our members it would not have been possible. The
congratulatory phone calls and written notes continue to come in from brethren
and friends. By the time you receive this notice, I will have presented the
Rainbow Girls of Richmond Assembly No. 10 with our donation and thanked them
personally for their help as well.
As I look to the future there are many ideas I have to further the long standing
importance of Henrico Union Lodge No.130 and its officers and I assure you my
assistance will be at your disposal. Let us keep up the good work. The July 11th
program will be presented by your Worshipful Master. Please note the date
change (2nd Tuesday) as we will meet under dispensation to avoid the
conflict with Independence Day. I urge your attendance to support your Lodge and
bring a friend with you. May we receive Light to guide us, Love to unite us and
Courage to support us.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Charles William Tompson, Sr.
