The stained glass windows pictured above were originally
installed in 1859 in the new Henrico Union Lodge
building on Twenty-fifth Street near Jefferson.
In 1973 the Lodge building was being torn down and the contractor attempted
to find some one who could preserve the windows.
For reasons not clear, the Lodge did not want to keep the windows.
Right Worshipful Allen Roberts of Babcock Lodge No. 322 intervened
and eventually the Master of Babcock Lodge Edward L. Perkins, Jr. got involved.
W. Sherman Ervin, Jr. and Carl C. Waddell managed to safely remove
the windows using a ladder and a pickup truck.
They stored the windows in Waddell's garage, had the lead replaced
and Ervin wired the windows and put in fluorescent tubes.
Erwin and the Worshipful Master installed them in Babcock Lodge
where they can still be enjoyed today by the members and visitors alike.
The original total cost for all three of the windows ?
Fourteen dollars and change!
